RICHARD EDWARDS

Richard Edwards is an accomplished Canadian artist whose work belongs to many private and corporate collections through out North America and Europe. He was born in Toronto and has been a full time artist since graduating with honors from Ontario College of Art in 1970. Working in a number of mediums, oils, acrylic, and serigraphs, the challenging art of watercolour painting is his choice for working from nature.

Richard has spent many years refining his skills as a watercolorist. Using multiple layers of washes he brings out the depths and mood of a subject. He begins his work in the field and completes it later in the studio; when opportunity arises his work is completed painting plein-air.

His exceptional landscapes reflect his dynamic approach to watercolours and the respect he has for nature. These paintings and original hand pulled serigraphs capture a moment in time, filled with colour and natural light. Based on Manitoulin Island he lives and paints mostly in Northern Ontario but has painted from Canada to Mexico. This picturesque and mysterious area is a painter's delight. Being surrounded by such rugged beauty he is constantly inspired to share his artistic visions with everyone. Richard works from his studio, at Edwards Studios located in the historical Old Mill, Kagawong.

Through the many workshops he conducts, he helps others to develop their talent. His wide variety of teaching experience includes artists workshops, for art organizations like the, O.A.C., 'Artist in the School' program; producing a video on painting for the Grey School Board; and teaching life drawing and painting at Georgian College. He has also taught at the La Cloche Art School for the last 10 summers.

He is an Associate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, a member of Visual Arts Ontario, Ontario Craft Council, the Sudbury Arts & Craft Foundation, and the Manitoulin Fine Art Association. Since 1969 his work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and received many awards.
